As soon as the air turns cooler and you need an extra blanket on your bed, it’s time for a new school year—and for those on their way to college, It’s time to go shopping for your dorm room. In my opinion, one of the most fun parts about going back to college is figuring out your new aesthetic and style for your dorm room.

And now, Pinterest has unveiled their top dorm room trends for 2024, making it even easier for you to have the dorm room of your dreams. From picking out new comforter designs, paint colors for your walls, and different rug styles, the sky is the limit.

Baddie Dorm Room Aesthetic

The “baddie” aesthetic from Pinterest is associated with decor that is bold, wild, and fashionable. Think: animal print fabrics, neon signs, fuzzy rugs and bold wall colors. For lighting, neon lights and signs are spot-on for this trend.

If neon isn’t your thing, hang twinkling lights on your bed frame or dangle them on your ceiling. For this trend, fluffy textures and fun prints are ideal. We love pink floral comforters, fuzzy pillows, and layers of bold colored blankets.

Coastal Granddaughter Dorm Room

This aesthetic captures the easy-breezy aura of east coast living. It’s soft, comforting, homey and full of neutral ocean themed colors. When dreaming up the perfect lighting for your room, think of a simple and relaxed feel. Pinterest emphasizes gold lighting in particular, that will pair beautifully with the blue ocean hues.

Pastel blue or light periwinkle colors will give your dorm room the relaxed style you want, and will add an effortlessly chic ambiance.

Luxe Dorm Aesthetic

If you are overwhelmed by clutter and want your dorm to evoke a clean and put-together energy, the luxe dorm aesthetic is for you.

For colors, the luxe dorm trend is all about beige, cream, black and gold colors. For your bedding, focus on a cream or sand color to make your space look brighter and bigger. Accessory-wise, gold lamps, acrylic makeup storage boxes, and beige desk chairs will give your dorm the luxury boost it needs.

Artsy Dorm Aesthetic

The artsy dorm aesthetic trend puts a lot of emphasis on your dorm walls in particular. This aesthetic is all about fun colors, mirror art, and artsy posters. Make a gallery wall out of your favorite polaroid pictures, or put up a painted tapestry.

We also love peel and stick wallpaper that you can use on just about anything (even your mini fridge, your walls, and desk). The beauty of this trend is that you can choose any color theme you want. The more color, the better, and the more art, the better.

Gothic Dorm Aesthetic

When we think of the gothic style, deep and dark colors come to mind. The main aesthetic for this fun trend is sultry and moody. Deep purple tones along with black and dark grays are the perfect colors to turn your dorm in to the gothic home of your dreams.

We adore purple comforters, long stemmed candles, and dark jewel toned pillows. Pinterest also highlights the use of dark gothic flower arrangements which would look lovely on your nightstand.

Earthy Dorm Aesthetic

The earthy dorm aesthetic is one of our favorites of the year from Pinterest. The humble earthy aesthetic is rustic, homey, and tasteful. And of course, green is the main color theme for this trend.

Dark or olive toned green bedding, along with pastel green pillows will help your bed become the star of the show. Don’t forget to take all your plants with you (and a watering can).

Coquette Dorm Aesthetic

The coquette aesthetic is all about evoking romantic and soft energy—basically, think Bridgerton. We recommend first getting the perfect bedding and for this trend, comforters with a bow or floral print is ideal.

Pearls are also huge for this trend, so pearl pillows and pearl-colored lamps will add a romantic touch to your room. Finally, you can’t forget your pastel pink accessories. Light pink hydrangeas on your desk or nightstand will be a perfect final touch.
