3 Fall Decor Trends I Fell in Love With at Marshalls and T.J. Maxx

As we approach fall and begin to embrace more time indoors, it’s important to think about your home interiors and create a cozy space that you’ll love spending time in with your beloved friends and family during the colder months. Whether you have a small space or you’re on a budget, there are various ways to refresh your space without compromising your current style.

I personally love shopping at my local Marshalls and T.J.Maxx because they often stock their shelves of seasonal goodies ahead of the upcoming season, so I can plan ahead when it comes to transitioning and decorating my space.

I asked Samantha Stathis, a Marshalls and T.J.Maxx home style expert, to share the three fall decor trends we will be seeing and how to style them in every kind of space. Read on to find out how you can design a space filled with warm accents and textures.

3 Fall Home Decor Trends You’ll Love

Stathis says we’ll be seeing tons of warmer tones, patterned accents, and textured textiles this upcoming fall season. All three decor trends can be layered to create a space filled with richness and character.

“Deep browns, burnt oranges, muddy purples, and other jewel-toned colors create an elegant and classic fall aesthetic that will instantly elevate your home,” Stathis says.

Another beloved and traditional pattern we should expect to see is gingham. When it comes to decorating with gingham, Stathis recommends combining the pattern with pops of earthy tones like sage green or burnt orange for a country-inspired look or using it alongside rattan furnishings and wooden accents if you’re leaning more toward a cottagecore aesthetic. This will help make the space feel inviting, natural, and playful.

“Gingham evokes a sense of timeless coziness, making it the perfect accent for autumnal-inspired spaces,” Stathis says.

Beginner-Friendly Fall Decorating Tips

If you’re new to fall decorating and aren’t completely sure where and how to start, Stathis recommends staying true to your personal style and design aesthetics. To get started on what kind of look you want to recreate, try creating a mood board of items and spaces you love so you know what to look for when you go decor shopping.

If you love minimalist style, Stathis suggests opting for pieces made from natural materials with a little ornateness like wooden side tables or woven accents. However, if you lean more maximalist, try some kitschy pieces like fun, pumpkin patterns or bold, checkered accents.

Minimalist Fall Decorating Tips

If you’re a lover of minimalist style and are unsure how to celebrate fall without all the bold color palettes that often come along with it, Stathis recommends using nature as your main inspiration.

Whether it’s filling neutral ceramics with dried branches to place on your dining table as a centerpiece or using smaller items like wooden pumpkins on a console table, you can’t go wrong with a pop of fall decor.

How to Decorate a Small Space for Fall

When it comes to decorating a small space, simplicity is key when it comes to themed decor, Stathis explains.

“Sourcing a few of your favorite standout pieces for each area can be enough to transform your home into a cozy, fall getaway,” Stathis says.

Look to include one to two fall decor items per room, so you don’t overwhelm it with too many patterns or textures. If you’re decorating a living room, opt for a cozy throw blanket in a burnt hue and a textured pillow set. For the kitchen, you can add some printed towels in an autumnal pattern and candle holders which will create a homey ambiance.

How to Decorate for Fall on a Budget

It can often be tricky to decorate for fall when you’re on a budget but with the right tips, you can style a space you love without breaking the bank. When it comes to shopping for fall decor, Stathis suggests looking for versatile and durable pieces that will last several seasons but still keep your home on trend.

“Long-lasting items like a chic wool throw blanket or maroon floral runner are an easy and cost-effective way to bring a touch of the season into your space,” Stathis says.

Simple items like fall-inspired candles, soaps, and towels will also help enhance your home without buying a whole new set of decor, Stathis says.
