Beloved paint brand Sherwin-Williams already is coming in with 2025 color forecasting. They announced their 2025 Colormix® Forecast, consisting of a whopping 48 trending colors organized into four color capsules: Chrysalis, Paradox, Wellspring, and Kindred.
Each capsule consists of 12 different colors and tells deeper stories of the paint colors that are thoughtfully chosen within a home, as well as nailing some macro trends we can expect to see in the upcoming year.
Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing, tells The Spruce how color experts look at a variety of influences, from art and culture to sustainability and innovation to tech.
“This year’s theme was inspired by this idea around a special collection of colors that represent a moment in time, almost like an exclusive, capsule collection that people are familiar with in terms of fashion,” Wadden tells The Spruce.
Below, we go more in-depth with each color capsule and share Wadden’s best tips for styling the colors in your own space.
Meet the Expert
Sue Wadden is Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing.
The Four Capsules
All the color capsules are connected by the theme of introspection and thoughtful curation, Wadden says. However, each capsule will offer a unique perspective to designers on how they can use it within their spaces to evoke deeper emotions.
Chrysalis
Sherwin-Williams
Chrysalis focuses on minimalist, raw shades that create a calming ambiance and celebrate simplicity. It represents transformation and growth, which is perfect for new beginnings. This capsule includes wood and earth tones.
The Chrysalis palette will be ideal for Japandi aesthetics and designing sanctuary spaces where you can set a peaceful tone.
Paradox
Sherwin-Williams
Paradox captures the electrifying and bold hues that have a contrasting nature, but nonetheless, create a striking visual interest, Wadden says. Expect vibrant bright shades and grounding neutrals.
“This palette presents the idea of embracing opposites to create harmony,” Wadden says.
If you’re looking to refresh your space with an eclectic touch, look no further than Paradox since it will be filled with energizing and unexpected tones perfect for mixing and matching patterns.
Wellspring
Sherwin-Williams
Wellspring is perfect for those who love enriching their spaces with classic shades that are meant to last. The palette includes timeless and elegant colors that have maintained relevancy through the ages, Wadden explains. Think of meditative and functional midtones.
Since Wellspring is the epitome of the midcentury modern design style, pairing it with playful curved shapes and wooden accents will help tie the whole look together.
Kindred
Sherwin-Williams
Kindred encapsulates warmth and community through its shades and creates a sense of connection and belonging, Wadden says. Using Kindred will allow you to create inviting and cozy spaces with its warm neutral hues that will make guests feel right at home.
If you’re all about maximalism, Kindred will be your favorite new palette to experiment with brights, pastels, and darks to curate a diverse space.

How to Choose a Color Capsule
When it comes to finally selecting a color capsule for your own space, begin the process by asking yourself what kind of feeling you want to evoke, Wadden recommends.
If you’re a first-time homeowner and don’t know where to start, Wadden recommends picking three colors.
“A base color, which is usually a neutral color for new homeowners, a secondary color, making sure it pairs well with the base color, and an accent color, which can be a more vibrant and fun choice,” Wadden tells The Spruce.
Then, follow the 60-30-10 rule: 60% of the space should be your primary color, 30% should be the secondary color and 10% should be your accent color, Wadden shares.
For the bedroom, Wadden suggests choosing a color from Chrysalis because it will allow you to set a relaxing environment which will help you easily reset and recharge. Since Paradox is filled with colorful hues, it will be a great palette to lean on when choosing accent colors when it comes to refreshing your hallways or bathrooms trim or molding.
If you’re looking for colors you won’t get tired of, especially in the kitchen, Wellspring will provide you with neutrals that are long-lasting. Finally, if you’re an avid entertainer, Kindred will drive unifying energy throughout a dining room or living room space so everyone feels well-connected.
Best Tips for Using and Styling the Color Capsules
- Start Small: If you’re looking to try any of the 48 shades, start by ordering free color chip samples of these shades at swsamples.com or at their local Sherwin-Williams store to test it out in your space before committing. Another way to know you really love the color is by using it as an accent color on one wall instead of all four, Wadden suggests.
- Mix and Match: There’s no rule to only use one color capsule, so feel free to mix and match various shades from the different palettes to create a space you love to look at and stay in. Start off by choosing an anchoring element and then adding a pop of color to balance the overall look.
- Don’t Forget Accessories: When it comes to styling your space, don’t forget to include artwork, home decor, and furniture pieces which will help enhance the colors and design styles.
