When the temperatures start dropping and you need an extra blanket for your bed, it’s a sign that fall is coming! But with cooler days ahead comes the start of school and more transitions.
At The Spruce, we always love a good decluttering and organizing session before a new season begins.
Here are the rooms you should declutter before autumn hits to have a fresh start for September.

Your Closet
Right now, your closet is likely packed with summer essentials like swimsuit cover-ups, beach bags, empty sunscreen bottles, dresses, and more. It’s time to pack up your summer items and make room for extra clothes like coats and jackets.
I personally love packing up all of my summer clothes into an under-the-bed storage container. Now, you can have all the room in the world for your new fall wardrobe!

Your Garage
No one wants to come home to a messy and unorganized garage, especially with school starting up! Even though it doesn’t sound appealing, it’s so important to get rid of your all of your summer junk to make room for new items that will slowly take up a lot more space.
Trust us, you’re going to feel so much better once this task is done.

Your Entryway
Your entryway is likely filled to the brim with summer sandals, sand, and everything else in between. Your entryway is the first thing people notice when people come into your home, so it’s important that it’s tidy, neat, and most importantly—clean.
If you put away your mail by your entryway, it’s also a great time to organize your mail and shred anything that you don’t need anymore.
Make room for new boots, umbrellas, hats, and more cold-weather essentials to prepare for the new season.

Your Bathroom
No one enjoys cleaning or organizing bathrooms, but the end result will breathe new life into your place. Get rid of old towels, worn out or outdated shower curtains, summer decor, and get ready to embrace a new cozy season.

Your Living Room
It’s time to turn your living room into a cozy oasis that is organized to perfection, with everything put in its proper place. Pack up your used summer candles, seasonal decor and unpack your fall blankets, fuzzy pillows, and more.
You may want to even invest in some new furniture pieces like a blanket basket or ladder to hang your homey knits.

Your Shed
Along with all the spider webs and BBQ tongs, you’re going to want to clean out all of the odd objects and knick-knacks in your shed, especially before it gets too cold.
Trust us, you aren’t going to want to tackle this when the temperatures drop and you’d much rather be warm by your fire.
This is a great time to organize all your tools, electronics, and more that you’ve been putting off for far too long.
