Zinnias

The Spruce / Lacey Johnson

We had a flood of comments shouting out major love to zinnias. So, what makes zinnias so special?

First, they come in an array of bold colors like pinks, oranges, and yellows. And, because zinnias are native plants to southwestern states, they are durable and strong even through the hottest of heat waves.

We totally agree that zinnias are the go-to flower to plant for gardeners everywhere, especially in the summer.

Growing Tip

Zinnias are known to be very easy to grow, but keep in mind that they don’t like to be transplanted—it’s best to sprinkle seeds wherever you would like your flowers to grow.

Geraniums

The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

Geraniums were another popular flower our followers love. Geraniums can grow ridiculously easily without much work on your part (always a plus). They also thrive in the heat, so you don’t have to worry about them wilting in the July and August months.

Geraniums come in a wide range of colors ranging from pale pinks to bold corals. They will most certainly give your garden a colorful personality during these hotter months.

Mandevilla

The Spruce / Phoebe Cheong

The Mandevilla plant is a native plant of Brazil and loves the sunshine. We couldn’t agree with you all more!

This plant is truly a treat for your garden with its bright variety of colors and its ability to continue to bloom and grow even through intense heat.

Another bonus? Deer don’t like it much, so you won’t have to worry about it being eaten up in the early hours of the morning.

Another thing to note about this sun-loving plant is that it’s also a variety of a climbing plant, which means it will look divine in hanging baskets on your front porch.

Sunflowers

The Spruce / K. Dave

Of course, sunflowers got a shout-out. We love them as much as you all do, too.

Sunflowers bloom in the late summer months to the fall months, making it an excellent choice for your garden or front yard display.

Sunflowers may even bloom until October so you can enjoy them for months at a time! Who doesn’t love these golden flowers that will brighten up any yard or garden plot? Sunflowers will never fail to be a great low-maintenance summer flower.

Nasturtiums

The Spruce / K. Dave

Nasturtiums are another popular sun-loving flower, plus these beauties are also popular amongst butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees.

Nasturtiums are bright and bold and will bring a pop to anyone’s garden this summer. Of course, their ability to thrive in the sun is just another reason to love them.

Fun fact about these flowers? They are actually edible!
